Workshop with Joan Schulze

warming up with postcards - collage
image transfer & collage
Totally enjoyed the recent workshop I completed with Quilt and Collage artist Joan Schulze Great content and great company were the perfect combination to learn new applications and expand ideas and boundaries. We started with a postcard project moved onto altering/using slides, image transfers and then onto mixed media collages. The workshops for next years Fibre Arts Australia - Ballarat have been announced.

Sunny Sunday

It was such a beautiful day yesterday we decided to get out and embrace it. We headed over to Nudgee Beach and I wondered around taking photos of the immediate surrounds while my husband cast his net. In addition to capturing the usual shots I also enjoy discovering and taking shots of objects and scenery that would often be overlooked. I've posted a collection of my forgotten/overlooked shots onto my facebook fan page. The photos can be viewed even if your not a facebook member the link

Whispering

I'm in a couple of creative and quilt groups and one of them is Inner City Circle (ICC). One of the challenges we ran with last year was a project called "Chinese Whispers" We asked Judie Bellingham to choose a mystery object of her choice and then show it to the first person in each of the two teams. These two people then made an A3 sized quilt in response/inspired by the mystery object. The second person in each team then viewed the first persons creation (but no unveiling or viewing of the mystery object) for just a 2-3 minutes and went off and created a A3 sized quilt in response. The third person saw just the second persons creation and so forth through the members of each team. I was the 3rd person in the whisper chain of team A and the above is my response to the previous persons creation. We had our unveiling in February, it's truly amazing how we all see and remember detail differently and what inspires us as individuals. The mystery object was Frederick McCubbins painting "The Pioneer" 1904 The full collection will be on display at our quilt show which is in August.

fabric through spoonflower #3

So happy the year is settling into a calmer position. I finish up my current role at the end of next week and head off to commence my new role at the end of April following a couple of weeks break. I'm heading down to Ballarat for the Fibre Arts Australia and will be doing the workshop with Joan Schulz A NOVEL Approach to quilts and related arts...5 Chapters = 1 Story
Three more fabric samples arrived during the week, so my fabric collection has gown by a couple more.
