Many Thanks to everyone who travelled out to the Scenic Rim on the weekend and visited Aliquilts Open Studio. It was perfect weather and look at these beautiful pieces our visitors have created for the community cloth. Ali, Chris and I are so thrilled:)

first day of a very creative month

May a month filled with open artist studios throughout the Scenic Rim 

 including Ali George & myself on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th May

at Aliquilts, 169 Niebling Road, Tarome. Our studio will be open 9am-5pm both days

All welcome - there's plenty of space for picnicking, lots of beautiful scenery to paint or sketch, we'll have mini workshops at 11am, 1pm & 3pm and you can make your mark on the community cloth.

 We converted Alis' garage into the gallery featuring artworks by Ali, Chris & myself as well as 

the SAQA "This is a Quilt" Exhibition

 We also set up a hands on and demonstration area. Chris sharing her explorations with her Flood Art & postcards, 

myself sharing image transfer techniques and working with oil pastels and 

Ali demonstrating various printing techniques with dyes & inks. Ali has workshops available.

What an awesome weekend, very inspiring. Many thanks to Chris, Judy, Dick, Jenny & Sue for your help throughout the weekend and to all our wonderful visitors. The Aliquilts Studio was open as part of the Open Studios and Cultural Trails of the Scenic Rim. Artists in the Canungra & Beechmont area open their studios this coming weekend of 1st & 2nd June. 

Art Show

Today was artwork delivery day for us the artists to drop off our works to the Toowoomba Grammar School Art Show. The art show is this weekend Saturday 23rd 10am-5pm & Sunday 24th 10am-4pm March 2013  there will be approx 600 artworks to enjoy and / or purchase. The school is located just at the top of the range at 24 Margaret Street, Toowoomba, QLD.

Open Studio Day & Urban Art Binge

Joannah Underhill and Emily Fong the co-ordinators of Urban Art Binge will be hosting an Open Studio Day tomorrow Saturday 13th October at Emily's Woolloongabba Studio as part of the BARI (Brisbane Artist Run Initiative) Festival. The Studio address is 58 Maynard Street, Woolloongabba.

The Studio will be open 12noon - 4pm join them for chat, tea/coffee/beer, cake

I was delighted to receive an email from Val with a picture of a wall hanging that she has made using my 'peeling away' fabric available through Spoonflower and an Australian Themed Embroidery designed by Tea Tree Embroidery

Day Trip - Enjoying the Moreton Bay Region

 

We headed north yesterday and had an enjoyable time visiting galleries and lunch by the sea. 

Our first stop was the Pine Rivers Art Gallery to see the State of the Art - Retrospective (which I have a piece in) and the Baltic Miniatures exhibitions. So much talent - very inspiring. 

We then went across to the Redcliffe City Art Gallery to see a collection of works by the Reddy Art Textile Group. The exhibition is called 3 Piece Suite and features textile and mixed media artworks by the following artist: Jill Burgess, Donna Davis, Sue Duffy, Diane Flint, Helen Forrest, Susan Pietsch, Judith McKinlay and Brenda Wood. Each artists collection includes 3 pieces of related work in three different forms. An amazing collection of works - wonderful. The exhibition continues until Saturday 25th August.

 It was then time for lunch and we stumbled across a wonderful little espresso bar that also serves food. 

We got ours as takeaway and popped across the road and sat beside the waters edge. 

Perfect coffee and the food was fresh and very very yummy.

State of the Art Quilt at Pine Rivers Art Gallery

The State of the Art Quilt 12 (SOTA12) collection is currently being exhibited at Pine Rivers Art Gallery 

The Gallery is open Monday to Saturday 10am-4pm

Gallery admission is free

The SOTA 12 collection features art quilts by the following artist:

Elaine Campbell, Linda Robertus, Sue Dennis, Rosemary McCall, Ros Ward, Tricia Smout, Kathryn Iliff, Felicity Clarke, Lynne Williams, Helen Kidd, Kate Osko, Julie Tasker, Alison George and myself.

Also being exhibited at the gallery - The Australian Forum for Textile Arts (TAFTA) presents 

'Baltic Miniatures' - an international collection of miniature textiles. 

The gallery is also co-ordinating a series of artist talks and workshops throughout these exhibitions

Enjoyed a visit to Tricia's Exhibition this afternoon. Tricia is the 2012 Artist-in-Residence at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Cooth-tha. Tricia standing in front her "Flowers of Friendship" project. 

supplies were available for visitors to make wreaths a symbol of continuity and the cycle of life.

and then map in hand I enjoyed a stroll in the gardens in search of bundles. 

Throughout the residency Tricia is working collaboratively with several groups, friends & artists. 

And we the 'Broadstrokes' collaboratively with Tricia are doing a bundle project - Integrate / Disintegrate

Tricia's current exhibition continues until the 29th June 2012 at the Richard Randall Studio

Premiere Showing of the SOTA12 collection

Today was the launch of the premiere showing of the State of the Art Quit 2012 a juror-ed collection of art quilts by 14 artist - Elaine Campbell, Linda Robertus, Sue Dennis, Rosemary McCall, Ros Ward, Tricia Smout, Kathryn Iliff, Felicity Clarke, Lynne Williams, Helen Kidd, Kate Osko, Julie Tasker, Alison George and myself.

The exhibition is at Gallery 159, 159 Payne road, The Gap, Brisbane until Sunday 29th April 2012.

Angelia's Art Journals by Angelia Thompson - not only do I enjoy Angelia's willingness to share ideas and techniques I also enjoy her music playlists. Pen and Think by Lynnette Shelley - I discovered Lynnette's work through the Redbubble community, Art with a Needle by Kathleen Loomis & like Sue I also enjoy Kate's blog with her discoveries and insights into our hometown that is Brisbane.

Had a very enjoyable evening last Friday night, with a few SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) members.

Stanthorpe Art Festival 2012

Black Muscat Grapes, snippet of Happy Happy Days, New Season Apples

I was over the moon when the letter arrived from the Stanthorpe Art Festival committee letting me know that my submitted pieces have been accepted to be exhibited as part of the Stanthorpe Art Festival 2012 a biannual event.

 The selected works will be on display at the Stanthorpe Art Gallery

Saturday 25th February 2012 to Monday 9th April 2012.

Gallery opening hours are Tues to Fri 10am - 4pm

Sat & Sun 10am - 1pm.

Yesterday dad and I enjoyed a day trip out to Stanthorpe to drop the pieces off. And of course you can't visit the Granite Belt without stopping at one of the outlets selling the locally grown produce. At the moment there was a wonderful selection of stone fruits, apples and black muscat grapes. On the way home we called into the The Swich Contemporary Art Space at Ipswich to see Salvage: journey of a textile artist by very talented Ipswich artist Annamaria Mays.  Annamaria's exhibition is on until the 18th February at The Swich Comtemporary Art Space, 191 Brisbane Street, Ipswich QLD 4305.
